What are Tunable Lasers? Tunable DPSS lasers use an Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) to produce tunable wavelengths in the 410 – 2300 nm range. This laser offers nanosecond (ns) pulse widths and a variable repetition rate up to 100 Hz, with up to 5 mJ pulse energy in the visible range.

Most laser diodes can be tuned over a few nanometers by varying the junction temperature, but some special types such as external-cavity diode lasers and distributed Bragg reflector lasers can be tuned over 40 nm and more with additional means such as an intracavity diffraction grating.

The method uses a semiconductor laser as a coherent light source, and uses a cavity mirror with high reflectivity to form a resonant cavity to achieve an extremely long effective absorption optical path, and detects the target gas by detecting the time-integrated light intensity passing through the cavity.
