What is the difference between femtosecond and nanosecond laser?
In the femtosecond regime, the laser pulse terminates before any material escapes from the surface. The laser energy is deposited in the sample target without a laser-plasma interaction. For nanosecond laser ablation, plasma shielding results in a decrease in the laser energy reaching the surface.
